Fun and Safety Day at the Park

On June 2nd, Otsego County held a Fun and Safety Day at Glimmerglass State Park. Local organizations included Otsego County Conservation Association, Department of Health, NYCAMH, and Glimmerglass State Park presenting on different topics to increase awareness about safety in the woods, on the lake, and outdoors. As the new Nature Center Interpreter, I taught several local school groups about safety along the trails, animal tracks, and how visitors to the lake and park can make sure to not leave their trace which can hurt animals. Students loved matching the animal tracks with the animals that made them, and talking about being environmentally responsible so that we can better protect the animals in the woods and at the beach.

Volunteers help preserve covered bridge!

On May 7th, 2016 Glimmerglass State Park received generous support from local volunteers and NYCM insurance who helped clean up the park around the covered bridge. The event was organized by Trish Kane and her husband who study covered bridges. They are presenting their research on July 17th during the Covered Bridge Celebration. Thank you to all of our volunteers! The park and covered bridge looks beautiful and is ready for our July celebration.
